King Copper Motel

Michigan folks!  Meet us at the Shell station in St Ignace on Friday morning at 9:30.... kickstands up at 10 A.M.

We plan on staying at the Thunderbird in St Ignace Thursday night.  Downstate folks might find that idea particularly appealing. Call Trish at: 1-906-643-8900

The distance to Copper Harbor is a little over 300 miles.  Plan on being on the road for 8-10 hours or so.  We’ll stop at the gas station at 77, lunch in Munising, gas up in Marquette and again in Houghton/Hancock.  We’ll probably arrive in Copper Harbor early evening around 7 or 8 P.M., check in and mosey over to the Mariner North for the Friday night fresh fish and seafood buffet.  They also have a full bar so plan on a little stroll if you’re going to imbibe.    Copper Harbor is a very small town so most things are within walking distance but Manganese falls isn’t.

Saturday:  Breakfast somewhere and a group consensus on dinner plans with necessary phone calls then Self-guided tours around the Keweenaw Peninsula.  We’ll have maps of a circle route along the most scenic roads with directions along those routes to the accessible waterfalls and lighthouses of the Keweenaw (don’t forget to stop at the Jampot).  I cannot say enough about how beautiful these roads are but beware...they (especially 26) can be very challenging with sharp twisties on dips and rises and at least one place where 30 mph may get you some air and you’ll be additionally distracted by the stunning views of the Lake Superior shoreline.  We’ll probably stop at the Gay Bar in Gay for lunch and photo ops.

Sunday early departure time for the ride back home or you may ride back on your own if you prefer.  We’ll give this more thought later on.  Folks from down state Michigan may want to make the return a two-day ride.  We might, too.  For now, we hope this contains enough pertinent information for early planning.
