And so on.........
Heber City, UT to Rock Springs, WY (253 miles)
We had a nice, uneventful ride from Heber City to the Flaming Gorge Resort at the southern end of the Flaming Gorge. The owner was very welcoming and they put us in a separate room. We had a cute waitress with a good personality, but unfortunately she was not particularly efficient and dishes ended up with the wrong people, etc. We presented another model corvette to the owner and again took a group shot with the banner.
The luncheon host had suggested that we should stop at Red Canyon where there was a ranger station and wonderful views of the Green River, loaded with boats, going through miles and miles of the Gorge. He had also suggested the Sheep Creek Geologic Loop as a worthwhile detour. We missed the first entrance and took the second, quite a bit further on. As we encountered some "road damage" (essentially the road went from pavement to dirt periodically) some of the group decided to turn around, but 6 of the 10 cars continued on. The views of the various rock formations were even better than we had seen on the larger highway. We made a stop about halfway through to watch a family of bighorn sheep on the side of the road and to discover creeks and waterfalls coming straight out of the hillsides. The six guys posed for a photo of the Dirty Half Dozen. It took us a while to re-do the road back, so we met the other 4 cars at the Holiday Inn Express in Rock Springs.
Doug had found a great restaurant
across the road from the hotel, the Siam Inn, which had Chinese, Japanese and
Thai food. Some of the group ordered single dishes, while 2 groups of 6 had
the Happy Family Meal and the Double Happiness Meal. We have never seen so
much food on one long table. If we had just ordered those 2 family style meals
it would have been more than enough for all 20 of us. The restaurant was not
very busy, so we had a huge space to ourselves and great service. Amazingly,
some of the group then went to get ice cream at Wendy's.
