Wednesday was embarkation day for the cruise so we stayed at the hotel until about 11 am and then got a cab to the Port. Our cabin class allowed us priority boarding and we knew that they get those cabins ready first so we headed to our cabin and unpacked our carry-on baggage and then headed up for a light lunch while the majority of the folks were boarded. It is very cloudy and so we are not sitting outside. The mandatory life boat drill was at 5:15 and then we were able to settle down to life aboard for 12 days. We have our excursion tickets in hand and have met our butler, Bento, so we have all the little details covered. As we prepared to pull away from the dock at Montreal, we realized that our cabin at the front of the ship provided an unforeseen bonus – we had an up-close view of the crew pulling in and securing all the cables and lines. We stood out on our deck with Champagne in hand (and a Texas Aggie party on or neighbor's deck) and watched Montreal fade into the distance, passing by all of the amusement park rides that were built after the long-ago World's Fair. Our dinner at 8:30 pm was in Toscana, where we found Antonio, who had also been Toscana's maitre d' on our cross-Atlantic cruise on Marina earlier this year. We also saw Janis, one of the waiters from that trip and finally Darren, the Brit who calls Barcelona home, and who we have seen on several cruises. He is still the maitre d' in the Polo Grill, so we will see him tomorrow night.
