Corner Brook is a small city in the southwestern corner of the island province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We arrived during an overcast morning which became showers as we waked through the dock area to the bus. There is no fancy terminal, but they had a one man rock band playing welcoming music and we were greeted by a couple with two Newfoundland dogs and a woman giving out locally made taffy and pins for our hats. Our tour was called Captain Cook's Trail. The intent was to show us where Captain James Cook had been while making maps of the area. What it really became was a tour of local fishing villages and a stop at a local church bazaar to try locally made jams and baked goods and look at local crafts. While a pleasant bus trip, we didn't get much out of it compared to our Quebec City visit. To top off the small town feel of things, some women bade us farewell with a personalized luggage tag. It is obvious Corner Brook has higher aspirations as a cruise ship destination.
