We left the motel at 7am and went to the Concorso Italiano
show. This is the second year they have asked Corvettes to
participate, but they do not do a very good job of advertising so we were
certainly the smallest group there. Upon arrival at the Laguna Seca
Golf Ranch, where the show was being held on the golf course, we were
directed to drive the cars the whole length of the course, ON THE CART
PATHS!!! When we arrived at the Corvette Hospitality Tent, we set it
up since there was only a talkative but clueless volunteer assigned to us.
COTV members know what to do in order to get ready for the show. We
folded shirts, set up tables, chairs,
umbrellas and also got the coffee, rolls and apples ready for us to enjoy.
We set up the Trophies they had given us: ALL THREE OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEST OF SHOW; FARTHEST DRIVEN; MOST ORIGINAL
As you can imagine there were more and better trophies for the Ferraris,
Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Alfa Romeos, etc. We had never seen so many
cars and so much money in one place. The COTV guys spent hours getting
the cars ready for show and although we didn't have the largest group, we
were lucky because the spectators came into the area right next to our
group, so we got a fair amount of attention. We needed to be in our
spots by 9am, but we soon realized it wasn't for everyone. Corvettes
were still arriving at 10am. We had a total of 20 Vettes show up.
Our very own Rob & Daryl Weber were presented the "BEST OF
SHOW - JUDGE'S CHOICE" Trophy by Michal Pierce with Corvette Market
Magazine. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH.....
Ed Keefer got tired and laid down by the sand trap for a nap. Joe
Priebe got some red flags and put them around Ed so no one would step on
him. Hope the sand trap doesn't have fleas.
We were able to leave at 3:30pm. Took it slow and went back to the
Inn. Hans got the key to the meeting room and the wine, cheese, crackers and
chips came out. We only have 3 hours before we have dinner. By
then we should be three sheets to the wind or out cold!
Left for dinner around 7:15pm. Dinner was at the Montrio Bistro, which
was quite close to the motel, but parking was almost impossible because it
was Friday night of Car Week. The food was great but dinner was very
late for our group and the restaurant and the surrounding areas were very
crowded. An auction was held next to the restaurant and a million
people must have been in the area. Ed and Carolyn said they had
enough and went elsewhere to eat. Daryl's birthday cake for Tuesday
finally showed up at this restaurant and we all enjoyed Death by Chocolate
layer cake. The evening ended around 11pm and we were planning on the
races at Laguna Seca
for Saturday.
Oh well, we may only pass this way once so we are going to make the most of
it. |
