Gary handed out our tickets and we boarded the train to leave at 3:20pm. We had the same seats with Toni and Hector, but were facing backwards this time. As with the journey up, they served us a snack of cheeses, nuts, cold cuts and a small cake. Then we had entertainment – a dancer in full regalia and a fashion show, with Peruvian knits from alpaca and baby alpaca, worn by the crew members who had just fed us. This was repeated by the staff in each car of the 6 car train. The goods were beautiful, but not bargains; however, they did a landslide business.

We boarded our bus for the final 1 1/2 hour trip from station to hotel in the dark and due to slow traffic (lots of tour buses on the road) did not make it back to the hotel until 7:30. It was already a long day and they were providing dinner for all of us at the hotel. Rob and Daryl and Terry and Micheline opted for showers and a change of clothing and ended up at the same table (must be fate!) for Peruvian soup, trout and a gratin of potatoes, and dessert with plenty of wine.
