Seattle & Tacoma 2009

The Hotel Murano in Tacoma and scenes from our room on the top floor, day and night.

Local color on the way to the Tacoma Museum of Art , their pet dog and a Chihuly exhibit.

The Chihuly Bridge of Glass between the Washington State Museum and the Museum of Glass. The blue objects are huge pieces of glass. There is a glass ceiling of his work and display cabinets of more work, all out in the open.

The outside of the Museum of Glass with the chimney stack for the glass furnaces. Several artists did the clear glass exhibits in the fountains.

Glass in a fountain.

The tower or chimney.

Making glass in the "hot shop". The ovens are at 2300 degrees. A museum crew works with guest artists in front of visitors.

This guest artist wanted clear objects that looked like TVs for an installation.

The team of three works together to turn a small gob of molten glass into a large object.

Putting the finished object into the annealing oven to set.

More of the process.

Working on another piece.

The chandelier that Chihuly made and donated to the University of Washington at Tacoma, in their library
which was originally a power station. It is 9 feet long, 1500 lbs and over 900 pieces of glass.

Seattle - the marina across from our hotel, totems at the park next to the Pike Place Market.

Views from our hotel balcony.

The Olympic outdoor sculpture park, the Space Needle and the Market.

City Fish at the Market.

Crowds gather at City Fish to watch them. When someone orders a fish the guy on the outside throws it to the guy behind the counter to weigh, fillet and pack.

It is hard to actually photograph the "fish flinging" because it happens so fast.
