Visby, Sweden August 27
We woke to rain, wind and 5-7 foot swells. Since we could not dock and would need to anchor and take tenders in, the captain decided that it was too dangerous so we had an unscheduled "day at sea."
Gotland is a popular Swedish island resort with beaches, a Botanical Garden, the Old Town of Visby, and due to its Viking history is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (almost all of our stops have been so designated.) So we missed another walled town with cobblestone streets.
Instead we had a slow morning, our favorite, with juice and coffee in the suite early, then breakfast in the Grand Dining Room. We bought more wine at the Wine Bazaar for the rest of this first cruise and the beginning of the next. Daryl did a light load of laundry. We read and as the day progressed the weather got sunny and somewhat warmer. We skipped lunch (what a hardship) and saved ourselves for dinner at the Polo Grill. Rob had clam chowder and the filet mignon and Daryl had their version of Waldorf Salad and the Prime Rib for a change (Mark, eat your heart out – the Lady's Cut is 1 1.2" thick and 1 lb, with no waste, all meat!).
