Last Days

It took us 3 full days to get home because of the changes in our travel plans. It was
Memorial Day Weekend and the frequent flier tickets were taken, so we ended up going home
in 3 different legs. We got to Athens (the port of Piraeus, actually) at 4 am and after
breakfast transferred to the bus to the airport. British Airways didn't open until 2 hours
before each flight, so a bunch of us just lined up anyhow. Once we got rid of the big bags,
we went to the BA Galleries Lounge, which was not as great as we had previously seen, but
offered comfortable chairs, light snacks and Internet connections. The trip from Athens to
London Heathrow was not too long, 3+ hours, but we were glad to land. We would leave from
the same Terminal 5 the next afternoon and our big bags were checked through, so we walked
to the Sofitel, a hotel connected to Terminal 5 and had a shower and dinner.

 The next
morning we walked back to Terminal 5 and got our boarding passes. Since we were traveling
first class on this leg, we were able to use the Concorde Lounge, which is much, much nicer
and we had breakfast served in their eating area, then sat for several hours, reading and
waiting for the boarding time. We fought off the crowds to board when called and found
ourselves with side-by-side “pods” with seats that reclined to a flat bed. They provided
pajamas in case you wanted to change. First they served “lunch” of 4 courses and as many
wines as desired. They provided “afternoon tea” an hour before landing. We reached Toronto
and picked up the big bags and cabbed it to the Holiday Inn Express – after 2 weeks of 5
star living, somewhat of a comedown.

Monday we spent hours in The American Airlines
Admirals Club in Toronto, went business class to DFW, then more hours in the Admirals
Club in Dallas, then a final, late flight to Ontario, where Rudy from Sterling Rose
Transport picked us up about 11:30-11:45 and got us home. No unpacking that night, just a
shower and bed. Since we got home Daryl has been a laundry fool and Rob has cleaned off
 the decks, etc.
We are now gearing up for our August and September cruises and all of our other trips.
