Las Vegas

We arrived in Las Vegas mid-afternoon to face a real challenge, the first of many – finding cheap hotel rooms that met everyone's criteria: 7 non-smoking rooms, on the ground floor, preferably with 2 beds in each, with a pool, with wi-fi, preferably with breakfast and ...preferably for under $50. Luck was with us again as we were on Tropicana and about 1 1/2 blocks off the Strip came across a Motel 6. Rob had stayed there once and not been impressed, but this Motel 6 had been refurbished and while not luxurious, had everything but the breakfast and for $47. After afternoon pool time, everyone headed for the Strip. The group of 6 were hunting down the Harley-Davidson store (the first of many!) and the group of 8 started a tour of the Strip with the MGM Grand, a stop at the Hard Rock Cafe store to buy t-shirts for Udo and Manu's world-wide collection, all the way to the Venetian for a look at the art, the canals and the singers, before crossing to see the volcano erupt at the Mirage, the World's Largest Watch Store at Caesar's Forum Shoppes, a steak dinner at The Palm, then back out onto the Strip in time for the musical fountains at Bellagio, a quick detour and window shopping at City Center and finally back to the Motel 6. Boy, our feet were tired and the newbies were on overload – first the vastness of Death Valley and then the people, lights and clamor of Las Vegas.
