Mt Hood/Columbia River Gorge Loop: 2 options by Ric Martin |

These 2 ride options take you through the Columbia River Gorge and over the
Cascade mountain peak, Mt Hood. Traveling in either direction gives you many
beautiful vistas and opportunities to stop and enjoy nature along the way.
The town of Hood River in the Gorge offers some interesting Oregon historical
sites as well as numerous restaurants to eat and relax.
1. Starting in the Gorge
I-84 East to Hood River exit 64. Gas stop to the left. Highway 35 South to highway
26, exit to the right to return to Portland. Good rest stop at Govt Camp at the
summit of 26. Proceed West on 26 back to Portland.
2. Starting in Portland
Head East on Powell Blvd or Burnside Road, which turns into Highway 26 East in the
Gresham area. Highway 26 East to Govt Camp at the summit of 26. Good rest stop at
Govt. Camp at the summit of 26. Continue to highway 35 North, exit to the right to
Hood River. At I-84, gas stop. I-84 West back to Portland through the Gorge.
